Force Internet Explorer to download Active X

An ActiveX Control is a type of program designed for use through the Internet Explorer Web Browser. ActiveX Controls allow you to perform tasks (Such as watching surveillance cameras over the internet) that you normally could not do through a browser, but this has a potential down side : ActiveX Controls could potentially run code that could be harmful or damaging to your PC. Because of this, controls are usually 'signed' as being safe. Signatures are valid only for a specific amount of time (Typically a few years). If a certificate expires, then your browser will not allow you to use that ActiveX Control to protect you.

EZ Watch Pro version 4.3 and prior no longer contain valid Signatures, the signatures for these versions of the software have expired. Because of this if you are using 4.3 or earlier you will experience problems viewing your cameras in IE because the control is blocked. To resolve this, it is recommended that you download the version 4.3.0.2 software from our Download Center. 4.3.0.2 contains an updated signature that will allow IE to properly download and use the ActiveX Control to view your cameras.

If, for any reason, you are unable to download and use version 4.3.0.2 then the following can be done to force internet explorer to download the ActiveX control despite having an expired signature. To ensure your security and safety online and to 'force' internet Explorer to install the Remote Live View and Remote Playback ActiveX Controls on your machine you MUST add your remote site as a Trusted Site, and configure ONLY your trusted sites. This will ensure that no other site except your remote view website is trusted to force Active X controls.

  • Step 1 - Open up your Internet Explorer browser, and go to your remote access website. Be sure this site is on the screen before performing the next steps.

  • Step 2 - Open up your internet options by going to 'Tools', then 'Internet Options'. Click on the 'Security' tab, and select 'Trusted Sites' at the top of the page.

  • Step 3 - Click on the 'Sites' button, then remove the check mark from 'Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone'. The site you wish to view should appear in the top-most box of this window, simply click on 'Add' to add it to your trusted sites. Click on Close once it's been added.

  • Step 4 - Make certain that 'Trusted Sites' is still selected at the top of the page, and click on 'Custom Level' at the bottom. Scroll down the list until you reach a section marked 'ActiveX Controls and Plugins'. Every single selection here must be set to 'ENABLE'.

Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without permission

Display Video and Animation on a webpage that does not use external media player
Download Signed ActiveX Controls
Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls
Initialize and Script ActiveX Controls not marked as safe for scripting
Run ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins
Script ActiveX Controls Marked as safe for Scripting

  • Step 5 - Click 'OK' at the bottom of the Window. When it asks if you're sure you want to change the settings for this zone, click Yes. Click 'OK' once more to close the security window. Close Internet Explorer.

  • Step 6 - Open up Internet Explorer and go to your remote view website. The site should now properly download and install the ActiveX control without requiring any prompting.

- Optional Step 7 - If you are concerned with future security, then once you are able to view your cameras properly you can then remove your site from the 'Trusted Sites' and reset the security back to default. After the control is installed it is no longer necessary to have the security settings lowered.
