One of the most popular features (If not THE most popular feature) of EZ Watch Pro is the ability to connect and remotely view the cameras from a remote location. EZ Watch Pro allows you connect using Internet Explorer or our own software to view the cameras from a remote location. The initial setup for remote access can seem daunting, but this process will explain it all step-by-step to make it easy. This setup should only need to be done once, after that you can connect with a minimal amount of difficulty.

Before starting, please note that EZ Watch Pro HIGHLY recommends that you have a static IP address assigned to your router. If you have a dynamic IP address then you may experience difficulties accessing your DVR if your address changes. Our EZ Watch IP service can assist in making certain your ability to connect is not interrupted during such an occurance. If you are unsure as to the type of address you have, please contact your internet service provider for more details.

If you wish to know more about static and dynamic IP addresses, please see our Static IP versus Dynamic IP guide. This will assist you in understanding why the type of address is important.

Setting up Remote Access on EZ Watch Pro 4.0

  • Step 1 - Connect the PC running EZ Watch Pro 4.0 to an active broadband (Cable, DSL, Fiber Optic, Etc) connection. Test your connection by attempting to browse websites (Such as the main EZ Watch Pro website). You must have an active internet connection before you will be able to view your cameras online.

  • Step 3 - Determine the Make and Model of your Router. The make and model of the router is normally silkscreened somewhere on the front or top of the router; in some more rare cases, it should be printed on a sticker on the back or bottom of the router. Knowing exactly which router you have is essential in ensuring we have the correct instructions for setting it up.

  • Step 4 - Open up your router configuration and forward ports 5140, 5150, 5160, and 80 (If 80 is already in use or blocked, 8000 can be used instead) to the DVR. The steps for doing this vary widely from router to router; since there are so many routers out there, we recommend using the website http://www.portforward.com to aid you in finding instructions for your specific router. A guide on how to use this site to forward your ports can be found here : How to use portforward.com to Forward your Ports

  • Step 5 - Configure or Disable any Firewalls that are running on the machine. Firewalls can potentially block the remote access from working, and must be set up to allow remote access or disabled entirely to keep them from interfering with your connection. For help with this please see our guide on Configure Windows Firewall for Remote Access

  • Step 6 - Obtain the public IP Address of the machine. Simply go to http://www.whatismyip.com and write down the number it gives you. This is the address you will be connecting to when you wish to view your cameras remotely*
* - If you have signed up for an EZ Watch IP account, then you will not use the Public IP address, but the EZ Watch IP address instead. This step is still recommended, however, for testing purposes.
  • Step 7 - Enable the Remote Viewing servers within EZ Watch Pro 4.0. By default, the services are in a standby 'stopped' mode and must be activated before you will be able to connect. For additional help on activating the services, please see Enable Remote Viewing within EZ Watch 4.0.

  • Step 8 - Test for connectivity. To ensure the most accurate results, it is recommended that you test your ability to connect from a separate internet connection than the DVR is on. There are two ways to connect, with Internet Explorer and with the Remote Live Viewer software.
    1. If you plan on using Internet Explorer to view the cameras, go to a remote site and open up http://<PUBLIC IP ADDRESS>. If you are not using Port 80, you will have to add a :<PORT #> to the end of it. Your link may look like : http://200.150.103.312:8000/. If all goes well, you should be able to see a screen asking you to select between Remote Live Viewer and Remote Playback.
    2. If you plan on using the Remote Live Viewer software provided by EZ Watch Pro, first install the software from your EZ Watch Pro CD. Open the software after it's been installed, and click on the Site Setup button at the bottom. On the screen that comes up, type in anything you'd like for the 'Server Name', type in the public IP address in the 'Address' field, and the main console username/password in their respective fields. Lastly, click on 'Test Server'. It should now tell you if it was able to successfully connect.
